Honest About What Will Work

Not every property suits a home charger, and we will say so rather than sell you an install you cannot use. Where it does work, we plan the route around the shared walls and limited roof space these homes have before we price anything.

Asked Questions

EV Charging Questions

  • No. We do not add travel charges anywhere in our service area. You get one price for the job and that is what you pay.

  • Not practically. A charger has to be on your property with the car parked at it, and running a cable across a footpath is not something we will do. We would rather say that than sell you an install that cannot be used.

  • No. It needs its own circuit back to the board with its own protection. Sharing a circuit with anything else is neither safe nor allowed, and it would make the charging slower anyway.

  • You can, with the portable charger most cars come with, but it is slow and it was never meant to be the everyday solution. A wall charger on its own circuit charges far faster and does not tie up a general power circuit for twelve hours at a time.

  • A 7kW charger runs on single phase, which is what most homes have. 22kW needs a three phase supply. Three phase is worth asking about if you have it, but for overnight charging at home a 7kW unit covers most driving comfortably.

EV Charger Installation in Clifton Hill

Starting at the Switchboard

Boards in tighter inner-suburb properties are frequently mounted in a hallway or an external cupboard with very little room around them, which affects what can be added. We look first.

Switchboard Upgrades →

The Cable Run

Limited roof space and shared walls mean the obvious route is often not available, so the run has to be planned around what can actually be reached.

Choosing a Charger

A 7kW unit on single phase suits most drivers here. Where space is tight, a socketed unit keeps the wall tidier than a tethered cable.

Workplace and Multi-Car Charging

If you only have street parking, a home charger is not the answer and we will say so rather than sell you something you cannot use.
