New Car, Same Old Switchboard
BYD has put a lot of first-time EV owners on the road, and most of them are plugging a brand new car into a house that has not had electrical work done in decades.
The board is where that shows up. An EV charger is a sustained load for hours at a time, and older boards frequently have no spare way and no suitable protection for it.
Charging from a standard outlet in the meantime works, but slowly, and usually with a lead run somewhere it should not be.
Charging Sorted Before the Novelty Wears Off
We install BYD home chargers to the manufacturer's requirements, on a dedicated circuit back to the switchboard.
Before that we check the board has the capacity and protection the charger needs, and quote any upgrade work as part of the same job rather than discovering it later.
Position is worked out on site around where the car parks, so the cable reaches the port without stretching across the driveway.
Once it is in we test and commission it and make sure it is charging before we go.

That depends on the charger and what your supply can deliver. A dedicated wall charger is dramatically faster than a standard outlet, which is the main reason to fit one.
You can, but it is slow and usually involves a lead somewhere it should not be. It is fine as a stopgap rather than a permanent arrangement.
