When a Room Is Nearly Right but Not Quite
Sometimes a room is finished and still feels flat. The joinery is good, the paint is right, and something is missing. Nine times out of ten it is the lighting.
Feature lighting is what brings out the parts of a room worth looking at. A lit display cabinet, strip under a benchtop, backlighting behind a panel, light built into a stair. It is the difference between a room that is lit and a room that looks designed.
It is easiest while the joinery is still going in, so tell us early and we will get the cable and the drivers exactly where they need to be.

Lighting Built Into the Room
Trophy and display cabinet lighting, joinery-integrated strip, backlighting behind panels, and LED built into benches and stairs. Everything pictured here is our own work.
The job starts with a conversation about what you want lit and where the light should appear to come from. Then we work out the cable routes and where the drivers can live so they stay reachable when one eventually needs replacing.
Getting the driver location right is the unglamorous part that matters most. A driver sealed permanently behind joinery is a problem waiting to happen.
If you are renovating, this is best planned alongside the rest of the electrical rough-in.

Sam and the team installed various feature wall and ceiling lighting, and did an incredible job. All of the team were professional from start to finish, with the minor details always being upheld. The attention to detail was high which was implemented across the installing, including the clean up at the end which is hard to come by with trades. I would like to thank the MillerCo team for the high quality works that was delivered. I couldn’t recommend enough!!!

Feature Lighting Questions
As early as possible, ideally before the joinery is built. The cable has to be there and the driver needs a home. Deciding after the cabinetry is in usually means compromise.
Trophy cabinet and display lighting, joinery-integrated strip, cabinet lighting, backlighting behind panels and mirrors, and LED strip built into benches, stairs and ceilings.
Yes, with the right driver and dimmer combination. Tell us at the start and we will specify for it, because retrofitting dimming to the wrong driver does not work.
That is exactly why we plan driver locations to be accessible. A driver sealed permanently inside finished joinery turns a small fault into a demolition job.
Yes, and it is the best time to do it. See our renovations and extensions page.
